Social care is not a 9-5 job, some people require support at varying times, therefore candidates must have a flexible working approach. You will be resilient with strong self-awareness and excellent people skills. Experience of working in the field of learning disabilities is not essential however a willingness to learn the necessary skills is essential.

This support includes working with people who present challenging behaviour and people who are on the Autistic spectrum. Successful candidates will be required to register with the SSSC. Where you are employed in a service where registration is compulsory, you must ensure that you register in the appropriate category within 6 months of starting in post. After registration, there is a requirement to be qualified within 3 years.
